Day 4: Jesus on Resurrection Evening
In the Jewish calendar, Saturday was the seventh day, the day of completion of God’s creation of the physical world in the previous six days. It was also the Sabbath, the day of rest instituted after His week of work.
Sunday was the first day of the next week, but counting consecutively it was also the eighth day, which meant something different was starting. The shape of the number itself is a symbol of eternity and on that eighth day in 33 A.D. something new did indeed begin. The Resurrection officially ended the old covenants and sacrifices, rendering them obsolete for those who believed in Jesus for salvation. It was also the beginning of a new way to come to God through the cross. We who are born again now have our citizenship in Heaven.
On the evening of the Resurrection, the eighth day, the disciples were together in a room, perhaps comforting one another over the death of their master and rabbi. But there was another reason.
