Jesus left Heaven for one reason, for one purpose only: to become a perfect spotless sacrifice. A blood sacrifice which necessitated a death.

As eternal God, Jesus was never meant to die. But our Creator and Maker, out of love for His own image bearers, chose to become like us and die in our place so we might return to His embrace. A mystery of our faith we will never fully understand.

Dietrich Bonhoeffer wrote, “Since sinful man cannot rediscover and assimilate the form of God (that he once had in Eden), the only way is for God to take the form of man and come to him.”

There was no other way to rescue God’s beloved children from the domain of darkness, from the power of the father of lies, the evil one who walked the earth.

Jesus was born to die.
