Day 2: “I will not leave you as orphans”
In 2002 my daughter Laura and I flew to China as part of a mission trip to an orphanage in the city of Tianjin. For eight days our small team of doctors, nurses, and ordinary helpers like us worked to examine every child in residence, a task never before undertaken. By doing this work we hoped to find children who needed medical help and make sure they received it.
Two women in our group were not assigned a doctor and nurse team: myself and a woman named Lynn. So we asked if we could go to the baby room and hold babies all day! We felt almost giddy with the idea.
