February brought us several surprises, four significant moments, and the usual signals of spring standing outside our doorsteps—daffodils bravely rising out of the cold dark soil and hints of red buds on the earliest of trees to leaf out.
The first important moment happened on the weekend of February 7-9 when one of my brothers and his significant other came to spend the night with us at our home and then the four of us drove to the farm to remember our mom, whose homegoing five years ago motivated our gathering. Remembering her several times during the weekend, we talked about Mom and her mother, and looked at old photos.
