As we drove away this month from a visit with one of our six children and her family, I felt a sense of sadness. Not ordinary sadness from leaving or missing someone you love, but a generic sense of loss. Here is why.
The emotion sprung from a comment I had just made. We told our daughter she was a great parent doing an amazing job with her kids. We also said the same to our son-in-law. And we meant it 100 percent. As challenging as little, middle, and big kids can be, our six are doing admirable work and we admire them for it.
