Every spring at the beginning of Lent I pull two books off my shelf, my now familiar companions for the 40--day journey. They are Forty Days of Decrease, by Alicia Britt Chole, and The Word in the Wilderness, by Malcolm Guite. Every year I find new treasures, new glimpses of God through their views of Him expressed in their writings.
One of my ongoing learnings from my seminary classes is this growing understanding: Our God is eternal and unchanging and we, though finite, are granted opportunities to see Him in new ways or with new understandings through the eyes, words, and teaching of others. Therefore, books will always be of great value in our journey toward heaven and in seeing our Savior face to face.
