We started something this year that I'm very excited about, and hope will become a tradition!
We decorated a large indoor palm plant with some kid-created ornaments: a lamb, easter egg, cross, crown and crown of thorns...
I hope next year to do this decorating on palm Sunday, read about the triumphal entry, and meditate on the hopes of the Israelites. As our young kids (currently 6 and under) get older, we can study more about the messianic prophesies. Throughout the week we will continue to read small portions of what happened that week in Jerusalem. On Thursday next year I would like to cook lamb for dinner.
On Friday, as we did today, we will read about the death and burial of Jesus. Then, I had the kids wrap up the whole pot of our palm tree in white fabric. We talked about how the disciples felt sad anf confused.
On Sunday morning, when the kids wake up, the cloth will be folded neatly to the side. Surprise! Jesus is alive!
